Advanced Materials Characterization Laboratory

Three contiguous rooms of laboratory space totaling 1100 sq. ft. include a laser lab for conducting interferometric and photoelastic measurements and a sample preparation lab with one six-ft fume hood and extension for sample fabrication and characterization.

Major equipment includes: Argon 4W laser, 100mJ Nd:YAG pulsed laser, portable moire interferometer, high frequency lock-in amplifiers, digitizing oscilloscopes, long distance optical microscope, reflection light microscope, stereo microscope, vibration isolation system, digital cameras, programmable scanner/ position controller, computer controlled ovens, and automatic polishing equipment.
